About the association

The Memorandum of the Association of Lake Regions was signed within the framework of the Baikal International Ecological Water Forum, which took place in September 2017 in Irkutsk.

At the first stage, representatives of several Russian regions rich in freshwater and saltwater lakes: Irkutsk Oblast, Buryatia, the Altai Republic, and Zabaikalsky Krai, expressed their readiness to cooperate in matters of environmental safety, tourism development, and the transition to a "Green Economy". The list of signatories to the Memorandum will be expanded in the future.

Mission

The International Association of Lake Regions was established in 2017. Its creation was caused by the need to combine the efforts of government agencies, public organizations, educational and research institutes, business circles and cultural and educational organizations to draw attention to the problems of the lake regions and work together to solve them.The main goal of the association is to mobilize the efforts of a wide range of participants in the urgent development and implementation of measures for the restoration, rational use and protection of lakes.The International Association of Lake Regions bases its activities on the national legislation of the Russian Federation and the regions-members of the Association and international agreements on water resources.
