Lake Constance
Lake Constance is the third largest lake on the European continent. It is located in the foothills of the Alps, between Germany, Switzerland and Austria. But the three neighboring states share it only de facto: there are no formal agreements that would define the boundaries between them within this reservoir.
The area is 536 km2.
The length is 63 km.
The width is 14 km.
The maximum depth reaches 251 m.
The average depth is 90 m.
The volume of water is 48 km3.
The coastline is 273 km long.
The height above sea level is 395 m.
The lake, the largest in the Alps and very rarely freezes in winter, offers visitors ample opportunities for full-fledged leisure. There are many interesting things waiting for you here: cruises on Lake Constance on a comfortable boat or a snow-white yacht, acquaintance with local historical and cultural attractions. We are not even talking about the concerts and festivals regularly held in the coastal German city of Konstanz, which attract a large audience of locals and tourists.
Numerous tourists who come here on vacation hardly think about the international legal status of Lake Constance. And few people know or guess that for many years it has been one of the most environmentally problematic reservoirs in Europe, and all thanks to the "efforts" of the Rhine, which carried its dirty waters here. Nothing reminds us of those not-so-good times anymore, since the environmental situation has been successfully rectified. Today, Lake Constance, the Swabian Sea or Lake Constance, a unique body of water well known by these names, is a model of cleanliness.

The finger-shaped arm of Lake Superior is located in the northwest. It even has its own name, Uberlingen. It is often considered as an independent water reservoir, the border of which runs between the Bodaryuk Peninsula and the city of Mersburg. The Bodaryuk Peninsula also serves as the natural boundary of the Upper and Lower Lakes. The latter, in turn, is divided into several, let's say, areas by various geological deposits – moraines. They also have their own names.: these are the lakes Gnaden and Zeller. The latter is located west of the island of Reichenau, more precisely, between the peninsulas of Mettnau and Heri.

If you visit these places in April, you will be able to enjoy the bright colors of luxurious tulips and daffodils. In May, azaleas bloom here, mesmerizing with the tenderness of their colors, and in summer – royal roses, as well as dahlias, marigolds, zinnias and snapdragons. In the parks of the cities adjacent to the coast, you can even find exotic trees – banana trees, palm trees, magnolias.
The local fauna is no less rich. The lake has long been a home for ducks and herons, swans and red-headed divers, which are rarely found in the Arctic. The underwater world can also be called densely populated and "multinational". Pike, eel, walleye, blue grayling and perch can be distinguished from the local inhabitants. In the 80s of the last century, all trout disappeared from Lake Constance, which was caused by water pollution with phosphate fertilizers.
